Board-certified psychiatric care from a provider who brings both clinical expertise and genuine lived experience to every appointment.

Tyler Patten is a board-certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Affordable Psych — a fully virtual, cash-pay mental health practice built on accessible, compassionate care. His journey into medicine began early; he always knew he wanted to help people heal. A high school psychology class sparked a deep interest that led him to pursue a bachelor's degree in Psychology, followed by a second degree in Nursing. Becoming a PMHNP allowed him to blend both passions and support individuals in their most vulnerable moments, guiding them back toward light and hope.
Tyler brings not just clinical knowledge, but genuine lived experience. While in nursing school — working full time with a growing family — he experienced anxiety and depression firsthand. His own path to healing, which came through honest conversations with his doctor and therapist and finding the right medication, deeply shaped his commitment to a patient-centered approach. Today, he prioritizes building the kind of therapeutic relationships that were so vital in his own recovery.
He has a special passion for treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD. Tyler believes mental health care should be affordable and efficient, and he leverages technology to reduce overhead — passing those savings directly to patients without ever sacrificing quality.
"Mental health isn't logical — it's not something you can just think your way out of."
Tyler sees therapy and medication as helpful tools, not weaknesses — things that empower you to live the life you're aiming for, free from the grip of mental illness. He openly acknowledges that it took him years to embrace self-care, but he now understands the profound impact it has on mental health. He strives to build genuine connections with every patient as they face their own challenges.
Outside of work, Tyler is a proud husband and father of five. His dream is to one day sail across the Pacific Ocean with his family. He's recently rediscovered a love of rock climbing and makes time for outdoor adventures — backpacking, camping, and hiking — activities that recharge his soul and keep him grounded.
Tyler believes the same principle applies to his patients: a full, meaningful life outside of struggle is both possible and worth fighting for.
Every patient is different. Tyler's approach is rooted in listening, lived experience, and creating truly personalized plans.
